Even with all the technology used by the National Weather Service to prepare severe weather warnings, storm spotters still give the most complete picture of what's really happening in and around severe storms. Radar simply cannot tell everything that the National Weather Service needs to know. Storm spotters are the eyes and ears in the field. A Basic and Advanced class will be offered November 3rd from 6:00 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at the Ware County Public Safety Administration Facility, 3395 Harris Road, Waycross, GA. Citizens from Emergency Response Team Training October 10 and 17, 2009 The class consists of two ten hour Saturdays and there is no charge for the class. The class is being offered to The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community. |
